    Marie Lamensch is Research Professor of International and European Tax Law at the Institute for European Studies and the Law Faculty of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. She is also visiting Professor at the Université Catholique de Louvain and the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and a legal adviser on tax Cassation cases for the Belgian law firm Liedekerke Wolters Waelbroeck Kirkpatrick. Her main research topics include VAT and European Taxation. Thanks to her specific expertise in the area of VAT, she has become a member of relevant expert groups of the OECD, the World Customs Organisation and the EU Commission. She also gives training at the IBFD's International Tax Academy and works as Technical Editor of the International VAT Monitor. She previously acted as researcher for the G20 task force on the Financial Transactions Tax, practiced as a lawyer in Brussels and Luxembourg and worked as teaching assistant in contract law at the Université Libre de Bruxelles.

    Alice Pirlot is a Research Fellow in Law at the Centre for Business Taxation. Alice’s research focuses on environmental taxation and the interaction between tax and World Trade Organization law. 

    Prior to joining the Centre, Alice was a research fellow of the National Belgian Fund for Scientific Research (FNRS) at the University of Louvain, where she completed her PhD in April 2016.

    During her doctoral studies, Alice has been a visiting researcher at the WU Institute for Austrian and International Tax Law (Austria), the Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance (Germany), the School of Economics and Management of Lund University (Sweden) and the Levin College of Law of the University of Florida (the United States).

    Alice studied law at the Universities of Namur, Antwerp and Louvain (Belgium). During her studies, she also spent a semester at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. In addition to her master’s and doctoral degrees in Law, Alice holds a Master of Arts in European Interdisciplinary Studies from the College of Europe (Poland).

He is now Head of the Tax Policy Analysis and Revenue Forecasting Unit. He chaired the OECD Working Party on Tax Policy Analysis and Tax Statistics and co-chaired the Joint Sessions on Tax and Environment from 2000 to 2009.
